Rostselmash Switching the Agricultural Machine Building to QR Coding
Rostselmash is the first company in the industry to switch the entire array of spare parts to QR coding. The state-of-the-art technology will help the company’s customers to check the genuineness of any purchased part regardless of its size: from nuts to headers. The 2D barcode will become an additional tool of product identification and protect the customers against counterfeits.
"All agricultural machine building companies start little by little using the proprietary package and label to protect the consumer. Rostselmash travelled this way several years ago. Today, we are modernising the customer support system, strengthening it with the help of more dependable tools," Aleksey Shveytsov, Commercial Director of Rostselmash, says.
QR coding not only protects the customer, but also has other objectives. First of all, this is the optimisation of inventory accounting and warehouse logistics both at the manufacturer’s industrial site, and on the dealer’s premises, and, in the future, of the entire chain from the placement of an order to its fulfilment and the delivery of products to the customer. "The project is expected to result in a more efficient control of the production of spare parts, a higher quality of customer service, and a better management of product delivery deadlines. Currently, SAP and other software of Rostselmash and its subsidiaries are adapted to QR coding," Mr Shveytsov says.
The original Rostselmash spare parts with a QR code on the proprietary label have already been coming to the central warehouse terminal. In the second half of May they will be shipped to the dealership centres. The next items to be switched to QR coding will be the purchased parts.
The QR-code incorporates all necessary information, including part description, original part number, drawing number, technical characteristics: weight, overall dimensions, etc., divisibility of items in a package, etc. The QR data will not only confirm the genuineness of spare parts, but will also be useful for a correct calculation by the customer of the required storage facilities and the vehicles to be ordered.
Check with several clicks
Now to identify a genuine Rostselmash spare part, it is sufficient for the buyer to take only three easy steps on its mobile gadget and no more than several seconds.
What you should do on Rostselmash’s web-site in the section Spare Parts/Check the Part for Genuineness:
1. Click on the "QR" shortcut.
2. Have the QR code on the label read (point the camera at the product label with the code).
3. It you cannot have it read, enter the data manually.
4. Click on "Send".
All the rest will be done automatically. The system will generate the request with a unique identification part number, check it against the company’s database and provide a report. The response will clearly say whether you have a genuine or counterfeit product.
The system will also warn if the identification number was already requested before, which means that either someone was curious about this spare part, but did not buy it, or someone attempted rather unlawful manipulations with regard thereto. That is: be more cautious. If the same number is sent to check the genuineness three times, information about it will be a trigger for a corporate audit. Therefore, the QR coding system for the company’s spare parts is another tool of protection against counterfeits.
