Russian Product Won a Medal at the Agrarian Exhibition in Hannover

12 November 2019

This is the first time in the history of AGRITECHNICA that a Russian company was selected as a nominee for the AGRITECHNICA Innovation Award. Rostselmash won a silver medal at the contest of innovations for RSM Night Vision, a night vision system for self-propelled farming machines.

RSM Night Vision is the operator’s assistant during farming operations at night. The technology allows detecting obstacles at a record distance of up to 1500 meters. The similar systems that are being installed on agricultural machines today provide a much lesser visibility, i.e. in the range of 20-50 meters.

“The experts’ attention shows that Rostselmash offers popular and relevant solutions in the market. AGRITECHNICA Innovation Award is among the most reputable contests in agricultural machine building, the appreciation for us is not only the recognition of our merits, but also the confirmation of the correct strategy of development chosen,” – Maksim Nakhabo, Marketing Director of Rostselmash, says.

RSM Night Vision consists of a special video camera, a video processing controller and a display that shows a high-contrast colour image. The standard headlights of a machine (sprayer, tractor or combine harvester) are used as a source of light. The video image processing follows a unique algorithm that eliminates the glow effect. Unlike thermal imaging, RSM Night Vision allows the operator to see all objects in the field and on the road irrespective of their temperature. This eliminates the risk of collision with trees and power towers.

The technology is of special demand when sprayers are used in the field because the application of pesticides occurs typically at night. As estimated by specialists, using RSM Night Vision can increase the efficiency of field operations at night by 20 percent.

The winners were selected by an independent expert commission. i.e. a group of scientists, researchers, consultants and experienced growers. The commission evaluated a total of 291 applications. As a result, only 39 innovations were awarded silver medals and one innovation won a golden medal.
